Last Thursday I was lucky enough to see Macklemore for the second time in a few months, and he definitely didn’t disappoint. He is a PNW native musician from Seattle who remains unsigned and until recently has had a dedicated but relatively small following. He is a hip-hop and rap artist who uses his music to discuss real life issues. And don’t let me forget to mention Ryan Lewis, the music producer behind the mixture of violins, gospel singing, and trumpets. The single Same Love has received quite a bit of press lately because of the support it gives to same sex marriage. And last week he released a new CD which made it to #1 on itunes. I would definitely recommend checking out The Heist, every song has real meaning. I am currently obsessed with 10,000 hours; my favorite lyrics from the song are “the greats weren’t great because at birth they could paint, the greats were great because they paint a lot”.
Here is the Same Love video – I would highly recommend you to check out his other music as well.
On Friday I got invited to a small performance by Austin Webb, a country artist who just got signed. I have a feeling that he is going to become quite successful. His voice is so smooth and he has a great sense of humor. If he doesn’t make it with the music he could give comedy a shot.
Austin Webb – Getting Even
On Friday I had the opportunity to go to Fashionxt. A fashion show with collections by Anita Kealey, Brent Collier, Joshua Christensen, Joshua Mckinley, and Seth Aaron. Sadly my camera didn’t work while I was there but here are some of my favorite looks, courtesy of Hal Harrison.
I loved the menswear by Collier, anything inspired by a previous era always seems to look fantastic in my book and the women’s looks by Seth Aaron had such great lines, I definitely would like a few of his pieces in my closet.
Here’s to another great week!
